Al Norte y P’atras/North and Back

In 2017, I completed a year-long residency at Self Help Graphics and Art, the culmination of which was a solo show in the summer of that year. The work was a fictionalized amalgamation of stories I heard growing up about my father, neighbors, and family’s stories of migration. The series of images was an attempt to tell a story about undocumented migration using only images, and grew from my doctoral research in visual studies at the University of Southern California. This series was inspired by Jacob Lawrence’s “The Migration Series,” and was an expression of my deep love for traditional black-and-white relief printmaking.

This series is part of the permanent collection at the Lucas Museum for Narrative Art.
